Last Sunday we thought that taking Timmy somewhere he could run off some energy would be a good idea. We did a little research and found a zoo about 20 minutes away in Michigan City. It's a nice little zoo and right next to the lake. It's only open from April through October (I think...) which makes sense because it would be too cold otherwise, probably for a lot of the animals as well.
It was such a different experience to be at this zoo as opposed to the Milwaukee Zoo. The main difference was how close to the animals you were able to get. It reminded me a lot of the Las Vegas Zoo, only without all the chickens and pigeons. The Michigan City Zoo has a lot of the same animals that the Las Vegas Zoo has, probably because they are fairly easy to take care of, even in a smaller space.
They had a turkey vulture and 2 bald eagles. I don't recall actually seeing a bald eagle so close up before or hearing them call to each other. It was pretty interesting to watch. There were a few monkeys, a reptile castle (yeah, I said castle), some otters and a petting zoo. I must say that Timmy was a lot more brave with the petting zoo than I thought he would be. He started petting the donkey through the fence right away and then ran up to the goats and started petting them. I thought he would have been more timid, but that's just me. I'm glad that he is so caring of animals, it really makes me happy.
When we were petting the goats we noticed a little goat kid and it was so cute! It was almost to Timmy for him to pet when all the goats ran over in front of a couple. The couple was feeding the goats popcorn, even though they were standing right in front of a sign that said "Don't feed the animals. $500 fine minimum." That's so frustrating! I hate it when people don't follow the rules just because they are being selfish and doing what they want instead of what's best for everyone. Truly annoying.
All in all, the zoo trip was a success. Timmy was a little disappointed that there weren't any elephants, but the zoo was just too small and there was no place for the elephants. Enjoy a few pictures below.

We have turkey vultures (or maybe they're just buzzards) in our neck of the woods...bears, too, if Timmy's interested!
Thanks for letting me know! I think the bears might be a little close for my comfort... Hope you guys are doing well. Congratulations to Jim on his promotion! Very exciting!!
