Weekend

This last weekend it was my sister-in-law's birthday and we thought it would be a good idea to go in Indiana instead of having them come up to Milwaukee yet again.

First we went to my Aunt Dolly's memorial and I'm really glad that we did.  There were a lot of people there and most of them I didn't know.  It's always nice to see people come to a memorial because it means that person meant something to them on some level.  It was interesting to see pictures of Dolly with her family, whom I don't know really well, as well as pictures of her and my grandpa growing up.  It was sad too because there was a picture up from my grandpa's 80th birthday in 2005 and since then two of the siblings have now died.  Out of 13 kids, there are only 3 left.  Timmy didn't do horrible, but he was not very social and attempted to use me as a jungle gym to get away from people.  It made it a little hard to converse with people but I didn't want to risk him creating a scene either, so I just went with it.

Throughout all of this I'm struck by how supportive Erik has been about my family and going to family functions.  To be honest, I don't think I've been to a single family function for Erik's side of the family that didn't involve his immediate family.  Because I know his family doesn't do too much, it means a lot more that he wants to actually come and be a part of my family functions.  There are some people that can, and do, beg out of such situations, and I really appreciate Erik not being of that mold.

Since we took the Vue, I drove down to Indiana.  It wasn't a bad trip at all.  We were hoping that Timmy would take a nap, but no such luck for us.  He did fall asleep when we left to go to dinner (awesome...) and I'm sure that had a little more to do with his mood than I wanted to admit at the time.  We went to a place called Tyler's Tenders (I think...) and it's got a bunch of train stuff and is a pretty cute little place.  Timmy enjoyed being able to watch a larger Thomas, Annie, and Clarabel chug around the little track.  He also decided that he wanted to give the larger train ride a chance.  I went in with him because although he wanted to be brave, he didn't want to be that brave.  Overall, it was a good time.  Timmy even ate a little of his food between playing with the trains.  For those of you who aren't living with a Thomas-aholic, the reason behind the name is, the car towed behind the cars that contains the coal (at least in the Thomas show) is called the tender.  So it's a cute little way to say it's a train theme restaurant.

Well, I'm not going to say the fun ended there...but it was halted a little by Erik having a migraine.  We stopped at Walgreens to get some medication for Erik, and then he promptly threw up in the parking lot.  Yeah, it was not a lot of fun.  Apparently the migraine had been building for most of the day and then just hit with a killer force.  He passed out on the way back to Jake and Amy's (like literally blacked out, but I didn't know that until Sunday) and Timmy had fun talking to Jake and Amy about his new stuffed duck that I bought him at Walgreens so he would have a distraction while we got Erik cleaned up and all set to go.

We got back to their place and Erik went to bed right away while I hung out with Timmy downstairs to give Erik some time to himself.  After about a half hour, I took Timmy upstairs to bed and then went downstairs to watch Jake and Amy play their Wii before heading to bed myself.  We got up late (like 9:30--which is really late for Timmy), ate some breakfast and then took our time heading home.

Overall, it was a good trip though and I'm glad we went.  I'm hoping that next time there isn't as much drama, but that's just how it goes sometimes.  Enjoy a few pictures!
