On Saturday, Erik was supposed to take Timmy to the zoo for Family Free day. It didn't end up working out because it was raining and less than 40 degrees. Not quite the weather you want for walking around the zoo.
Since today is Monday (Milwaukee county residents get in free!) and I now have a car, I thought that I'd take Timmy down to the Milwaukee Public Museum for a chance to walk around a little more and see some things that are different than our house.
Apparently, today was field trip day. There were easily 5 different schools there. It was a little crazy. Luckily, most of them seemed to be there for the Titanic exhibit (which looks like it is interesting so I want to go back for that) so the areas we were weren't too crowded.
Because I let Timmy decide on where to go, we didn't make it off the first floor. To be honest, we didn't even more than half of the first floor. He went right into Old Milwaukee and enjoyed looking in all the shop windows. The MPM actually had the little theater open as well (I didn't know it was even there!) and you could see what an old fashioned theater and movie looked like (Timmy wasn't impressed). I thought that was really interesting.
We walked into the European Village and Timmy had fun knocking on all the doors to the houses, saying "Come in!" and then trying the door handle. He wasn't even frustrated that the doors didn't open. Thank goodness for that!
After walking through Old Milwaukee and the European Village 4 or 5 times, I convinced him to see the butterflies. Right away he ran and had to look and play with the water (I just don't get it) but then he was actually interested in the butterflies. He was so interested that he picked a few of them up by their wings. When I told him he shouldn't do that, he let them go (none of the were crushed or anything) and watched them fly away. He then was content to just look at the other butterflies. Thank goodness!
Once we were out of the butterfly exhibit, we went to a new (at least for us) section immediately to the left that feature venomous bugs and other creepy crawly things. While it's not my favorite place, Timmy did seem to enjoy it. Not quite sure I want to go back and look at millipedes and tarantulas, but that's just me.
After we finished there, it was back to Old Milwaukee and the European Village. Oh well. At least he had a good time.
