The weekend before last (so the 17th and 18th, just to ensure you're on the right weekend) I had off on a Saturday for the first time in over a month. We didn't quite know what to do with our day but knew that we wanted to do something a little different and not waste it laying around the house.
After tossing out some ideas we decided to go apple picking. Then we needed to decide where to go. We decided to again go to Elegant Farmer (like we did last year). It looked a little windy and cold so I bundled Timmy and I up in our winter coats and we headed out. When we got there it wasn't that cold at all so we ditched the coats and went with sweatshirts instead.
We had a really great day! First we got a basket and two donuts before embarking up the hill to find apples.
Erik decided to try the first apples we came across because he wanted to ensure that we were only bringing home apples we would eat (as opposed to the last 2 times when we ended up with WAY more apples than we could eat and it didn't go well).
Erik picking a few apples. It's nice that he can reach a little bit higher on the tree and nab some of those that others left behind.
Timmy getting in on the apple eating. He really enjoyed eating them and must have had about 4 (that includes the ones that he didn't quite eat all of that fell on the ground). He's had a blast eating them at home too. Glad my kid likes fruits!
Erik thought this apple looked like a butt and thought that was hilarious. You'll notice what appears to be a napkin in Erik's hand behind the apple. It's not a napkin. Before we headed up to these apples, Erik (rather stubbornly I think) tried to get a really great apple a little higher up in a tree than he could reach. He did what a lot of people would do, and jumped for it. He missed the apple but managed to grab onto the branch and a smaller part of the branch sliced open his middle finger at the mid-joint, not too deep but deep enough to bleed quite a bit. Since we left the backpack and everything like that in the car, we didn't have much to stop the bleeding. But we did have a used wrapper from a donut. So he wrapped that around his finger until the bleeding pretty much stopped. See, we like adventure!
So rather than jump for apples, like Erik did, I decided that climbing the tree was a better option. It worked out well, the pictures of me just aren't so great.
Here I am trying to hand some apples back to Erik as he's trying to take a picture. That's the reason for the look of slight annoyance on my face.
Look apples! In the tree! That's crazy!
We didn't remember if there would be animals at Elegant Farmer, but there were a few. In fact there were these two sheep and the pony rides you can see in the background.
Short arms do not make it very easy to pet the sheep.
This year we decided to go on the hayride. We didn't go last year and I'm not quite sure the rationale behind that (although we did meet up with people so maybe that was the reason...).
Unfortunately, I could not get Timmy to actually look at the camera and smile. He would either look at the camera and not smile or smile and not look at the camera. Oh well.
