Since Stephen will be three this year (!), it seems like a good time to actually post about him being born. He was due at the end of July, July 31 to be exact. Throughout my appointments my doctor kept saying that he was measuring a little bit larger than his gestation. When I asked if he thought we needed to change the due date, he didn't seem too concerned. He thought that maybe Stephen would come a week or so early.
One of Erik's best friends, Jeff, was getting married at the end of July so we were a little nervous about Erik being in the wedding. To be honest, I didn't want to pay for a tux that didn't end up being used. What a waste of money that would have been and with a brand new baby to boot, not a huge fan of the idea. The wedding came and went, no baby, no labor. Erik gave a nice speech about his friends and how much their friendship has meant to him over the years. Timmy had a good time dancing up a storm and I danced with him (because what did I have to lose?).
The following Sunday, my due date, one of my friends was having an open house for her daughter's baptism. We went to the open house. My friends had just bought the house and for whatever reason, a thorough inspection of the existing play fort was not done. There was a nest of either hornets or yellow jackets that had made their home in the play fort. Poor Timmy and my friend's son found it and came out screaming covered and being stung. Not a super great experience. So I took off the next morning to take Timmy to the doctor to ensure that there wasn't a problem then he and I picked my mom up at the airport (she was coming to town to help us after Stephen was born). I dropped them both off at my brother's house and went to work for half a day.
Around 3:30am I felt some intense pressure below my belly. I woke up Erik, told him about the pain, then called the on-call number. I was told that because I appeared to be able to speak well and wasn't out of breath that I probably was not in labor. I told the on-call person to let the floor know that we were coming and if it was false labor then they could send me home. We let my mom know we were leaving and headed to the hospital. We got there and I was 4 or 5 cm dilated. So needless to say, we did not go back home.
We had Stephen around 8:30am and I was able to have my doctor deliver him. I don't remember the people in the room saying this when we had Tim but my doctor made sure to say "Happy Birthday, Stephen." It was so sweet. My doctor is truly awesome. I told Erik that I wanted to call the on-call person back and tell her that we had our baby but Erik didn't think that would be the greatest idea.

Timmy meeting Stephen
He wasn't quite sure what to make of the little baby.
But he did tell Stephen the first time he met him that "I'm Timmy. I'm your big brother. You and I will be best friends."
